UH Warriors Night at the ArtZone It's Homecoming Night for the University of Hawaii Warriors at Aloha Stadium, so show your support for the home team and get a free beer! Bring in any HIFF ticket stub from Saturday only OR a UH ticket stub and get a free beer from festival sponsor Kona Brewery. While supplies last -- so get there early! The ArtZone is actually a private residence, but you've never seen a home like this. Featured in Home and Garden TV, it includes a screening room, jacuzzi, awesome art by local artists, and silk acrobatic ropes and a trapeze that hangs from the (really high) ceiling. Please enjoy yourself but remember we'll be in a residential neighborhood (and we'd like to be welcomed back). We'll have heavy pupus but the real fun is in the drinks at this party. Enjoy island staple shave ice with a little kick of vodka, li hing powder, azuki beans or condensed milk -- or all of it! Dreamsicle Okinawan awamori is also dangerously delicious. Bar proceeds to benefit HIFF -- but please drive responsibly. We want everyone to be safe! http://artzonehawaii.com/ Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 9 pm - 12 am The Art Zone 3245 Pali Hwy 595-6591

Robert Lopaka Kapanui wrote at 10:18am Friends, tonight beginning from 7 to 8:30pm'ish I am offering a special, "5 Candles Ghost Tour." There is an old Japanese belief that if you are willing to lite a certain amount of candles and tell a ghost story for each candle and blow everyone of them out one by one as each ghost story finishes, by the time you blow out the last candle, you will see a ghost. Let's do this tonight. Let's lite one candle for the 5 haunted locations we go to tonight so that at the last spot as I tell the last ghost story and blow out that final candle, we should (if we are lucky, no guarantees) see a ghost right in front of us. Bring your digital cameras, video recorders and EVP's! Call or text at 699-4940 or here on facebook. This is a one time only ghost tour for $25.00 per person because we are going to carpool. Meeting place is at the Kamehameha statue. Will this ghost tour to conclude in the dark depths of Makua cave or at Pu'uomahuka Heiau? I will leave it up to all of you. You are required to wear black from head to toe. Good luck.

[ The following is based on the official description from http://podcampaz.org/about/ ] === What is PodCamp? PodCamp is a free “unconference” focused on new media. I’m assuming your next question is what’s an “unconference”. Well, among the many hard to explain things in this world, this may not be the hardest, but it’s ranks up there in my book. Here’s how podcamp.org explains it: “The characteristics of all successful communities: broadly shared, accessible set of opportunities, a shared sense of responsibility for the success of the common enterprise, and a genuine sense of belonging.” - Former President Bill Clinton, TED2007 PodCamp is a FREE BarCamp-style community UnConference for podcasters and listeners, bloggers and readers, and anyone interested in New Media. It was held for the first time from September 8-10 in Boston, Massachusetts and is now spreading across the world. You do NOT need to be a podcaster to attend a PodCamp. If you’re interested in podcasting or blogging, if if you’re a podsafe musician (or want to be), or just someone curious about podcasting and new media, then please join us — and bring a friend or colleague.PodCamp AZ is just starting to take shape and desperately needs your help. If you are interested in helping out in any way, please contact us at info@thecreationshop.com, or stop by the PodCamp AZ page on podcamp.org and throw your name in the rung. We’d love to hear from you and get your thoughts, ideas and suggestions for how we, as a community, can make PodCamp AZ an amazing event. Now, as far as PodCamp AZ is concerned, we’re just getting things started and really need everyone’s help. Please join the mailing list, the Google Group (http://groups.google.com/group/podcampaz) or the Wiki (http://podcamp.pbwiki.com/Podcamp-AZ). You can shoot us an email (info@thecreationshop.com), add us as your Twitter friend (http://twitter.com/podcampaz) or even make a donation. The success of PodCamp solely depends on you! Together, we can all make PodCamp AZ a rockin’ success! Got some great ideas for PodCamp AZ? Dump your brain-load in the Wiki. (the wiki is still a little under construction, so bear with us) === Facebook Group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=13838969275 Official Homepage: http://podcampaz.org/

(Well, I guess "opening" is as close as an event type as a CD release can get.) The very first project created as Eponymous 4 finally gets a CD release in 2008! These tracks date as far back as 1998, when a burglar made off with my first workstation. "enigmatics" was a way to get familiar with replacement equipment. It's something an homage to Enigma, an artist of whom I'm not a very big fan. Why create an homage, then? It's easy to emulate your idols, but fighting ambivalence is far more challenging. (Subject to change, of course.)

What is the Hawaii Geek Meet? The Hawaii Geek Meet is a casual, friendly, open potluck gathering of geeks. And we mean "geek" in a most inclusive, positive way. Do you like technology? Do you have a specialty? Among your friends or coworkers, are you the guru, the go-to person for things that blink or have moving parts? Whether you're passionate about programming, photography, design, HAM radio, model rockets, painting, teaching... we want to meet you. For specific and focused local groups, the Hawaii Geek Meet is a great excuse to see old friends and catch up on the latest tips and trends. But at the same time, the idea of Hawaii Geek Meet is to mix and mingle with other brilliant people, people you might never meet in your own circles, but people with whom we'd bet you'd get along smashingly. The Hawaii Geek Meet is the brainchild of Burt Lum (of Bytemarks) and Aaron Dragushan (of Manoa Geeks), but truly belongs to all Hawaii geeks! Who is invited? Anyone who is remotely geeky about anything. Web developers, designers, programmers, photographers, videographers, podcasters, bloggers, even artists, teachers, thinkers... Are you knowledgeable and passionate about something? Are you naturally curious and interested in learning about something? Do you want to meet new people, share what you know, and learn a thing or two that you don't? Then you're invited. Bring your friends, your family, your kids... and if you've got geek toys and gadgets, bring them too! The core of the Hawaii Geek Meet are several local groups that already get together to talkstory and share knowledge. Is your group interested in joining? Just add your name to the list! When will it be held? Sunday, April 20, 2008. Where will it be held? Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park, Picnic site #40. You can view and print a PDF map of Magic Island. Why? Why not? RSVP at www.hawaiigeek.com as well

That's right: I've moved my Second Life bookshop - The Soft Edge - to beautiful new quarters, in the Artists' Village in Second Life. And to celebrate this new opening, I'll be reading from the beginnings of each of my five novels - The Silk Code, Borrowed Tides, The Consciousness Plague, The Pixel Eye, The Plot to Save Socrates - at 4pm Eastern (1pm Second Life time) this afternoon! I'll also be giving away a copy of one of my novels in a contest, which will be open to only those who attend the Grand Opening today! If you're already my friend in Second Life, look for an announcement from me, 30 minutes before the reading, with a landmark you can use to get to the reading. If you're already on Second Life, but are not yet my Friend, I can be contacted at PaulLevinson Freenote - send me a note in Second Life, and I'll reply with a landmark to the reading. If you're not on Second Life, you can join for free any time at http://secondlife.com - after you've joined send me a message here on Facebook, and I'll give you more details. More details about all of my novels at http://theplottosavesocrates.com Time: 4pm Eastern (= 1pm Second Life Time) [Please ignore the New York, NY City/Town listing - you can attend this event from any place you and your computer happen to be.]

You know you want to hear this ... you've regretted missing all of the readings I've done before ... So I'll be back this afternoon, on the Web, in Second Life, reading some new material from my novel in progress, Unburning Alexandria... It's the sequel to The Plot to Save Socrates - but, if you haven't read that novel yet, not to worry, I promise I won't give anything away in my reading... The reading will take place on the Web in Second Life. If you're already my friend in Second Life, look for an announcement from me, an hour before the reading, with a landmark you can use to get to the reading. If you're already on Second Life, but are not yet my Friend, I can be contacted at PaulLevinson Freenote - send me a note in Second Life, and I'll reply with a landmark to the reading. You folks know the drill: come to a startup, eat their lunch, geek out, and then volunteer for the next Lunch20Hawaii like Lorenze (CEO of iLovePhotos.com) did last time. Raise your hand and you're in! iLovePhotos creates an entirely new photo sharing paradigm. Imagine seeing every photo anyone has ever taken of you. Imagine automatically sharing all your photos with your friends. Using facial detection and visual tagging, iLovePhotos simplifies photo management by doing two things: Automatically sharing your photos with the people in each photo and automatically creating compelling slideshows out of your photos. Parking: Parking can be difficult downtown. You can try to find on street metered parking, or park in the garage in the building which will probably cost about $2.50 for two hours. Please RSVP via email to rsvp@lunch20hawaii.com. And following up on our first Lunch 2.0 Hawaii in Dec. 2007: * Congratulations to Carnet's team at ChipIn that launched their new product Sprout Builder with great success at Demo '08! Here is a link to a video of their presentation. http://www.lunch20.com/2008/01/10/lunch-20-hawaii-launches/ * If you missed it last time, here is the link to PeopleBridge's video that quickly covers their approach to delivering HyperRelevance. http://www.mediadv8.com/pb/flash/ * We were mentioned by Pacific Business News who wrote a quick story on Lunch20Hawaii's launch: http://pacific.bizjournals.com/pacific/stories/2008/01/21/story9.html?b=1200891600 Lunch 2.0 with Aloha!

Getting together is great, being in the same room as people who share the same passions and ideas as you, being with people who can sharpen your creative edge and inspire you to achieve your goals is a huge part of what new media should be about. With that in mind we'd love to welcome you to the first Podcastmatters New Media Coffee Break, sponsored by Podcastmatters Ltd. It's a chance to meet up with fellow new media enthusiasts or to meet up with people who are dipping their toe into all things blogging, podcasting and social/new media. Beer, wine, tea, coffee and a buffet will be provided.

The hits keep on coming! I've been getting such good response to my readings in Second Life - which you can attend right on your computer - that I decided to accept a invitation to do a reading this Sunday! If you do not have an SL account, you can get one, for free, at secondlife.com - once you have an account, just do as above. You can use the landmark to get to my reading on the day of the event... IGNORE THE CITY/TOWN LISTED WITH THIS EVENT - I HAD TO FILL IN THAT PART OF THE FORM, AND NYC IS WHERE I LIVE - but you can come to the reading wherever you are, because it will take place right on your computer! Note also: 3pm Eastern time = 12 Noon Second Life time
