Visit to The Henry Ford with your User Experience colleagues. See the special exhibit "Out of this World" and other parts of the museum (and Greenfield Village if the weather is good). There MIGHT be a special time/place to meet your UX colleagues, but there might not. If we all go on the same day, we will run into each other as we visit the museum, and that may be enough.

BarCamp is an un-conference; An open format event where programmers, designers and business owners can network and learn. A BarCamp conference is unlike any other technology conference. Rather than being planned by a committee in advance, each community works together to create its own event. A BarCamp generally has an underlying theme, but the individual topics and sessions are organized shortly before or even at the event. This enables BarCamp to be much more than targeted to the needs of the Milwaukee community. Learn more and sign up at: http://barcampmilwaukee.com/

Let's welcome the students back to Bloomington and see if we can add a few more geeks. Dinner at Max's Place September 4th. See you there!

Enjoy an outdoor family picnic at the park and support Geoff McKim's campaign for County Council, hosted by County Commissioner Pat Stoffers. Show your support for a strong Democratic voice on the County Council by joining us at Karst Farm Park on Sunday, August 31st (Shelter #2, 3:00-5:00PM) for a fundraiser for Geoff McKim, Democratic candidate for Monroe County Council (at-large). We'll provide the food, and you can bring the whole family -- there are lots of things for the kids to do at the park! Come hear Geoff's plans for responsible economic development, a county stormwater utility, and county infrastructural reform -- and share your thoughts about the recent County budget hearings -- and your ideas about the future of Monroe County! Let us know if you will be coming by sending a message to info@mckimforcouncil.com or by responding to this Facebook Event, so that we are sure to have enough food and drinks. We look forward to seeing you! Geoff McKim's Web site is: http://www.mckimforcouncil.com

The Hauskatz will be performing at the Fluttering Duck bistro... be there!

Maybe you love lying under the stars. Maybe you'll like to pretend that every meteor is a falling star because you have a lot to wish for. Maybe you enjoyed the movie Armageddon and your destructive imagination could use a good visual. *****Since this seems to be confusing people-- this isn't an actual event. You watch the shower on your own, I'm just trying to inform you. You can watch it wherever you are, not just in College Park. Just open your eyes and look up.***** **Best seen:** NIGHT of August 11th to MORNING of August 12th. **Best time:** between 2 a.m. to dawn on August 12th. This is after the moon sets so the sky will be darker! Times listed are the times wherever you are. 2 a.m. Eastern Time is only 11 p.m. Pacific Time so it won't be dark enough there yet. 2 a.m. Eastern Time is 9 a.m. in Amsterdam and you won't be able to view it in the morning. You have to go out after the moon is gone. If you want to see the meteors, go somewhere away from city lights (if possible). Bring a sleeping bag or lawn chair, kick back and watch the skies. Try to look in the direction that the sky is darkest. You will probably see a meteor about once a minute on average (fewer if your sky is light polluted). The meteors will be visible for a few days before and after the peak viewing time, so keep an eye out. The meteor shower can be viewed anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere and the shower happens around the same time every year. A reminder will be sent out to all who are attending before the shower occurs! Invite your friends! (Event picture thanks to Wally Pacholka! See more of his work at http://www.astropics.com.)

Hauskatz live at the Duck in Greencastle. Special guests. Lets jam it out from 9-11.

Please come to my house for an evening of appetizers, drinks and desserts. This will be an opportunity to meet my very good friend, Geoff McKim who is running for county council. This event is open to only the first 20 people who register.

Greetings friends, Two things you may not know about this week - I am in Bloomington, and Tuesday is my 29th birthday. Four things you may not know that I like - Barbecues and fireflies and corn and contra dancing. One thing you probably DO know without me saying it - I'm something of a procrastinator when it comes to party planning. :) ------- THIS WEDNESDAY, JULY 2! - YOU'RE INVITED! ------ WHAT: The Barely Belated Brunette Birthday Barbecue, sometimes referred to less formally as "Shit! The last birthday of my 20's! Let's go to the park!!" WHEN AND WHERE: 5:30 -- Arrive Thomson Park: I'll be at the large picnic shelter, which is the one at the far end of the parking lot; no pressure to get there right on time - I'll just light the grill and play with whoever shows up whenever they arrive. :) 7:00 -- Eat grilled stuff! 9:30 -- All willing hands and feet transfer to the Bloomington Boys and Girls Club for the last hour of the weekly BOTMDG contra dance (you can leave the park earlier if you want to make the dance on time (it starts at 8:30), but I want to stay to see the fireflies come out, and I don't think I've made it to the dance on time in years, so best not try for too many time management challenges in one week.) 11:00 - All still standing accompany the dancers for regularly scheduled post-dance revelry. Send me a message if you can't make dinner but want to meet up afterwards, and I'll text you when I find out where we're going. WHAT TO BRING: I will provide corn and a limited amount of beer and grillables, both meaty and vegetarian, but more stuff to drink and throw on the grill would be welcome, as would fun munchies and things to play with in the park. There are some neat trails around the park and there is a lot of grassy space and a small playground, so there should be plenty to do, and kids are welcome if you have some hanging around when it's time to go. :) Gifts are not at all required or even expected, and we can run to the store if it turns out that I'm too popular for the amount of food I buy beforehand, so just bring what you have on hand and come enjoy the evening with me. If you just can't resist giving me something on principle, contributions in any amount at all to the Summer Relocation and Celebration Fund (I'm heading back out to California for a couple of months in mid-July to start a business and run a kitchen at Burning Man, so the hecticness has not abated yet -- but details in person, yes?) would be greatly appreciated in lieu of more stuff to try to fit in my car. ;) ------- That's the nitty gritty, and I hope you can make it because I would love to see all of you before I leave town again for a while. The last six months have been frantic and unpredictable to say the least, and planning gatherings turns out to be rather difficult when you don't have a place to host them, so there have been fewer occasions to hang out and catch up with my friends than I prefer as a matter of general policy. I hope to see you on Wednesday and if it doesn't work for whatever reason, please drop a line to this email address anytime. I'd love to catch up on how the last year of my 20's seems likely to unfold.

Time to get your game on. Help us Kickoff Gencon with a bang. Food, Drink, Games, Music. Make some new friends and find friendly faces before you are swimming through the waves of humanity at the con. I am proud to announce that AmieSt.com will be helping to sponsor this party. Great music goes hand in hand with a great party. This is a 21 and over party, we will be carding.

Information: We are having a house party at our place starting around 9pm. It is a celebration marking the end of our grad school careers. Everyone is welcome, so bring friends. We will have tons of beer and some non-alcoholic beverages, but feel free to bring other beverages. Theme: The party’s theme is “Future Sexx.” This means party goers should dress in a way that they think will be considered sexy 100 years from now. Actually, you don’t really have to dress differently if you don’t want to, but there may be prizes (and magic points) for the best Future Sexx apparel. Be creative with your Future Sexx outfit, but some obvious future-sexxy apparel includes: David Bowiesque pants, robots, headbands, ties, glitter, sunglasses, lungis, eye patches, and anything shiny.

There's this event that comes around once every year entitled Little 500. Now, whether you're a seasoned veteran at this experience or a novice, one thing is for certain: there really is no other college weekend quite like the complete mayhem that is Little 5; the weekend is about the closest thing you'll find to anarchy on a college campus. So, to do the legend of Little 5 proper justice, it would simply be inappropriate to not have an event of epic proprotions - and the party we've been hyping up for about a month now is nearly upon us. Party favors will include: - DJ Xander of 'People Are Still Having Sex' fame will be spinning discs all night - We'll be serving Hand Grenades, the famous New Orleans drink - Kegs, beer pong, other drinks (the usual) $5 cover for guys, free for girls.

Last year we brought you "Under the Sea." This year we bring you "Over the Rainbow!" Come dance the night away for a great cause! Featuring dance tunes by: -The Mother Truckin' DJs -The Go-Go's (members of Defiance, Ohio, The Door-Keys, and Kentucky Nightmare) -Bruce Cougar Mellensteen (a Springsteen/Mellencamp hybrid brought to you by Prizzy Prizzy Please and a special guest) -Le May (late 70s dance hits from members of Whipporwill, The Coke Dares, and Early Day Miners) -Bjork (the ladies who tore it up as Tina and the Turners at last year's prom) -Hosted by Justin and Molly 21+ $8 Dress to Impress!! Contests for most imaginative, king and queen, and most colorful attire. Bring $ for the photobooth!

To All HCI/d Student Not Going to CHI: We're lucky, actually, not only will we have more time to work on the projects for Jeff's and Eli's classes, but we also get to party on our own turf. Let's meet at 10pm on Friday in the speakeasy-styled bar below Farm on Kirkwood near the Buskirk-Chumley for some good times.

***It is impossible to send out a reminder to an event with members over 1,200 attendees. You will have to remember on your own.*** Who: YOU! Everyone around the world What: http://www.earthhour.org/ When: March 29, 2008, 8pm your local time Where: In your own home and/or workplace Why: To create AWARENESS about energy consumption ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE ASKING WHERE THIS EVENT IS TAKING PLACE. The Indiana University School of Informatics will be conducting an unconference entitled, "The School of Informatics in 2015." We invite students, faculty, staff and alumni affiliated with the School to participate in self-directed conversations about the future and professional impact of informatics as a discipline. We will meet in Wittenberger Auditorium from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 29. Participants will be encouraged to come prepared with a discussion topic that they can write on a white board to encourage others to join. There is no pre-determined limit to the number of simultaneous conversations. We will have two 45-minute sessions of small group dialogue, reconvening as a larger group to summarize and share a few actionable steps. A panel discussion will take place at 3:00 p.m. Participants from that day's unconference will lead a discussion by sharing their experiences, conclusions and points of action.

Thursday is my birthday. My birthday is important. If you want to acknowledge that you understand the earthshatteringness of this event, then take note of the following opportunity: Sat night - I'll be on the town, wherever, call me. Additionally, if you can't come then, I'm amenable to making/buying/stealing/EATING desserts and hugging any day of the week, so you should make a point of telling me that you adore me. unless you don't. or don't really know me. in which case, at least get me a gift. what i would like is a nice snowstorm and a sled, or a castle. mmmmkay.

Purdue @ IU tonight! If you don't have tickets (or capstone class...) let's go to Yogi's and watch the game together! The game is at 7, and since last time there were no tables, I'm going to head over there soon after Eli's class gets out. I plan to be there 5:45ish. It would be good to have an idea of how many people are interested, so send me an email if you think you'll stop by. I can drive up to 4 people home after the game if necessary, so don't let lack of a ride deter you!
