On this fateful day, my parents moved us from Queens, Long Island, New York to Miami, Florida. We weren't actually in the city of Miami. Actually we weren't actually in any city. The area we lived in was (and still is) part of unincorporated Dade County (now called Miami-Dade County). We moved into a house on the last block that was already built in a community called Palm Springs North. They were still building the houses across the street from us.

After growing up in NYC, I felt as if I'd been dropped off the face of the earth.

And then there were two! Emma was a surprise, but she was a wonderful surprise! Although she had colic, she was still a lot of fun. My father said she would rule the world with her pointer finger. :)

My oldest daughter was entered the world on this day. She was (and still is) beautiful, intelligent and brave. I love her greatly. She was a wonderful baby, always happy and a joy to be with. I got to spend three months with her before going back to work.

Got Married

I was 23 and he was 25. We met at work and had acquaintences in common. The marriage lasted 20 years and produced two wonderful daughters, so it wasn't a total loss.

The wedding took place at his parent's church with the reception in the meeting room. My parents were never well off, so I paid for all of it. I had wanted a wedding outside in the backyard of the house we bought, but although as I say, I paid for everything, I got nothing done my way. I wish I'd learned to stand up for myself before that event, but that's behind me now.

We were supposed to go backpacking through Europe for the honeymoon, but he couldn't take time off from work, so instead we went camping in Ocala.

I was born in New York City on the island of Manhatten at the garment worker's union hospital, French Manhatten, at 11:59 am on May 4th, 1959. My parents were Cuban immigrants who had been in this country for two years. They were fairly old to start a family (for their generation). My mom was 34 and my father was 42.

Today I joined Dandelife. I found out about it on Wikipedia through their listing of social sites. So far it looks like an interesting place. This year is my "writing" year. I've always journaled but this year I'm determined to write a novel for the NaNoWriMo. I'm practicing daily, and this site will help me in that goal.
