Boy i remember when mom seen her for the first time. It's like she was in heaven. I very vividly recall her referring to Christina as "La Rosa del Lago". Rose of the lagoon. It's a saying based on a story she read to us when we were small. The story was about a young girl who was impoverished and on a daily basis would venture out near a lagoon and ask God to free her from her misery. She asks him to send her a sign to let her know that things would someday get better. She does this over and over. Finally one night when she can no longer take it anymore she bursts out crying. At that moment tears begin to stream down her face and she sheds tears on the ground. She finally leaves and decides to come back the next day. Now keep in mind the lagoon is a very ugly place. Yet when she returns she kneels down. She looks around and once again asks for a sign. She hears a noise and when she turns to see what it is, she spots this very beautiful, very rare thing. A rose in the middle of the lagoon (Where the tears had fallen). A rose that has no business being there because it is so very rare. Yet she takes it as her long awaited sign and kneels to pick it. Mom said that Christina was like that rose. Very rare and beautiful. Anyway, I thought you'd like to hear that story. I just wish she was hear to tell Christina herself.
