Cracked Head  − 1 September, 1979

I'm putting September 1979 as the date for this event, but I honestly don't remember when I cracked open my head. How do you not remember a more specific time frame for something like that?! (barring amnesia, of course)

My dad had just moved back and my parents were discussing remarrying. He had just got a new job and needed a work apron (couldn't tell you where he was working at the time). We went to KMart so we could buy one. I was stubborn, (big surprise) and didn't want to hold anyone's hand in the parking lot. I had my hands in my pockets. I tripped over a very small rock. How it could have even caused a trip is beyond me. I went flying. Since my hands were in my pockets, there was no way I could stretch out my arms to break my fall. My head went crashing into the curb right outside the store. I don't remember the sensation of the pain but I do remember the sound was awful. My parents were obviously upset. My dad picked me up and he pulled out a blue bandanna from his pocket to lay on my head. My parents raced me to the hospital, my mom in the front seat holding me while holding the bandanna on my wound.

They rushed me into the emergency room and everything happened pretty fast. The doctors were able to slow the bleeding and were able to start suturing pretty quickly. I received 12 stitches right below my left eyebrow. I had several x-rays taken that evening. When I think back, it didn't seem to take very long and I was able to go home that evening. My mom had to wake me up several times through the night. We ended up going back to KMart the next day for that apron and I got a Barbie out of the experience.

Stitches hurt like hell when they removed them. The scar was very red for awhile. It is now pretty faint and crosses my eyebrow but is higher on my forehead. It's very rare I remember this accident because of the faint scar.

Owch... I knew many a kid that fell whilst hands were in pockets. All ended in much the same fashion.
