I Started Podcasting for Atkins − 26 February, 2005
I found Podcasting around October of 2004. I was actually one of the first ones riding the initial wave of it. (I feel the same way about "Lifecasting" here at Dandelife). I listened to Adam Curry, the old MTV VJ, do his podcast from the UK.
I began thinking that I could create a podcast about Atkins. I looked around, surprisingly, no one else had been doing one yet. I began thinking about what the Podcast would be filled with. I already knew I wanted a low-carb one but I decided to center it around my Atkins site : Atkins All The Way. That way I could get casual listeners/Atkins Dieters who listened to Podcasts to hear about my site and visit it, hopefully becoming valued community members.
I started creating bumpers and an intro and exit theme and I did my first one on this day. It took me about 4 hours to create it. I had an annoying air conditioner and sort of a lisp because I was trying to sound professional. (I don't know why that happens) I had to edit all the mistakes and such.
Subsequent Podcasts came off better and I was able to create them more quickly. I got some actual pro-equipment (Behringer Mixer and Microphone) so it wasn't recorded on my PC headset but I still used Audacity because the audio programs that you pay for looked too complicated.
I listed my Podcast on Podcast Alley and other directories and it became very popular. I even saw it listed on iTunes automatically, I never did anything to get it there. It's actually listed about 3 times under Health and Fitness.
Check it out, I haven't created one in over a year but I'm working on a 2.0 version to be started again soon.
