Grandfater teaches IRS lesson  − 1 September, 1946

I happened to be at Grans home one day when he was visited by two IRS agents who wanted to question him about his previous years charitable contributions to the Episcopal church. I sat in on the interview held in his upstairs at his home. After they asked the question he produced a large black ledger book from his desk drawer and handed it to them. Every expenditure he had made in the year was in the book. At one point the agents asked him about one $.05 listing paid to "Charlie". He explained that meant he had given me a nickle on that date. The agents looked at me then at each other and said that was all they needed.

I learned much later that he had taught my mother how to budget her monthly expenses, she passed that expertise on to me while I was in college.
