Started Teaching A Volleyball Clinic − 23 September, 2006
I thought I was volunteering for the job to teach kids in grades 4 through 6, but at the "interview" my boss told me my pay scale and I started getting paid. Deryck and Devon enrolled in the class too. I'm now officially an employee of the county of Appleton. It's the first time I've worked on a Weekend day since 1997. Now, every Saturday from 9 till 11 a.m., I get money for teaching the sport I love.
I got to the gym at 8 a.m. and met with the other 2 clinicians. One is a coach at a junior high school, and the other was a standout at a local high school a few years ago. We talked about what we were going to teach the kids and how we were going to be careful to not overwhelm them. Considering that I've been looking for Volleyball in this area, the facility is amazing. I'm surprised I haven't found it earlier.
The kids, 43 of them, started arriving around 8:45 and we had to shoo the parents away. Chris brought Deryck and Devon around 8:58. We started with stretching the kids and played cooperative tag to warm them up. Then we started teaching them the fundamentals of the pass. We broke up into groups and ran drills and played a few games, passing only. before we knew it, it was 11 a.m. and we dismissed the kids. It was fun acting like a grade school gym teacher.
I tried to make the kids laugh and get them to come back the next week. i want the sport of Volleyball to grow around here and letting the kids have fun is the only way to do it.
Now I'm off to see a high school Volleyball game between Menasha and Appleton East (Alyssa and Stephanie's high school)

Congratulations! Just from your words that you wrote i could feel the enthusiasm and excitement towards your new found job. I'm sure the kids will pick up on it and your success will be translated in the progress that they make. Once again Congrats.
