jeremy piven my hero − 1 November, 1989
at the time i lived in evanston a suburb north of chicago and i was waiting for the train at the howard station. it was already pretty late in the evening. then i noticed a familiar face, it was jeremy piven, we had both gone to the same high school together. i believe he was a year or two behind me. the last time i had seen him was in a play called *methusalem* by the new criminal theatre. the theatre company was started by john cusack and was heavily influenced by comedia dell'arte.
i approached him and we started chatting. when we got on the train there was a man who was screaming and shouting at random people. making racial slurs and trying to provoke a fight. as soon as the crazed man saw me he started threatening me with physical violence, swearing and screaming at me. jeremy became very protective of me and made sure i sat safely near the window while he took the seat by the aisle. as the man threatening approached our seats, jeremy pulled out a roll of quarters from his pocket and said, *if he comes one step closer and tries to hurt you, i'm going to f*cking beat the sh*t out of him!!!*
luckily, the psycho guy got off at the next stop. i thanked jeremy for his chivalry. i don't know what i would've done if he wasn't there. thanks again jeremy for being my hero.
