Alexander The Great enters the new millenium − 6 January, 2000

I went into labor at around 1pm but my contractions didn't become regular till about 7pm and then all hell broke loose. No one knows what labor feels like till you actually experience it, it's an out of body experience but not in a good way, or maybe you kinda wish you were out of your body.

I had to take a cab to Seton Hospital in Daly City, yes I TOOK A CAB TO GIVE BIRTH. Once I got to the ER I just had to sit down, I was in pain and since my red Polo jacket was so puffy nobody was paying attention to me because you couldn't really see my humongous belly inside it. One nurse even came up to me and asked "Can I help you?" to which I moaned YESSSS. When they finally figured out that I need help they took me upstairs (2nd floor maternity ward) and it was around 9:00pm, all hell broke loose.

I didn't have an epidural because I dilated too fast so they drugged me with something that made me dizzy but didn't take the pain away. I recall saying over and over "It hurts so bad, It hurts so bad..". At about midnight they broke my water and I started pushing. There was this nurse who made this child come out of me, she was super petite and her name was Juliette. I remember she had tattoos on her hands. For a person so tiny she made me push so hard and we both pulled on a towel in opposite directions. Basically I don't know if I could have done this without her.

My mom was also there and she made an extremely inappropriate comment once my newborns head was showing, she said that I look like a two-headed monster!!! I recall people coming in and out but it was all in a drug-induced daze.

At 3:14am Alexander Jerome was introduced into the world.

This story has a lot more details but since I am thinking back to 7 years ago some of them kinda got brushed up with dust over time.

you are a very *brave* woman, no epidural. my goodness i've had friends tell me that they were in such pain that they threatened to kill their husbands during labor. however i'm sure the pain was over shadowed by the birth of your healthy, beautiful son. was alexander really named after *alexander the great*?

Well we thought about the name a lot before we picked it. There were a number of reasons, the most important being that it had to be both American and Russian. I wanted something that all grandparents would be happy with. I also like the way it is used in Russian language and that is Sasha (very cute). And then of course since we don't have a multi-name structure in Russian I wanted him to have 2 great names. His father is Paul Jerome but he goes by Jerome so he is Alexander Jerome and goes by AJ, almost kinda like having a sir name.
