You can! Laura's family always took family vacations camping, and to a tiny little lake town in Illinois (Olney). So everytime I took a trip with them I would get hurt! Her uncle Don was an EMT and would preform the various, torturous procedures.
The first was when I went flying over my handle bars of my pink huffy bike. I had gravel stuck in my knees. Not pretty. Sweet uncle Don voluntered to put iodine in my wounds. By the ways it stings SOOO bad!!
Second, I was at the lake and got a really nasty splinter that worked its way into the ball of my foot. Wouldn't you know it, it got infected. Uncle Don and Laura's mom Linda worked at getting that stupid thing out. You know it still makes me hurt retelling this! The needles and scalpels were out! I was screaming, and crying (I was 23 - no just kidding!). Finally, the deal was to try a piece of bacon on it. So we left the bacon on overnight and if the splinter wasn't out we were going to the hospital. Guess what! It came out! Apparently the fat lubricated it enough to bring it out!
So there is a great home remedy for you!! Sorry no pictures for this story!

Wow. A friend of mine would surely get splinters for the sheer fun of putting bacon on them and then fry the bacon and eat it. Even if there is fluff on it or gravel. I'll tell her about this. I'm pretty sure she will try getting splinters this weekend.
