Formation of the National Home Study Council − 1 January, 1926
- Originally established to improve the standards of private and federal correspondence schools.
- Renamed the Distance Education and Training Council in 1955, one of the first national accrediting agencies for DL recognized by U.S. Department of Education .
- Currently, more than 2.5 million Americans are enrolled in DETC-accredited institutions.
