University of Iowa first to broadcast courses via television − 1 January, 1934
Iowa was a leader in offering courses over radio, and continues to lead the way by being the first to offer courses via television. Some of the courses included oral hygiene and identifying constellations.
This is a form of distance education that is still being offered today, 80 years later.
