I Created the Internet! (The Supercomputer Network Study Act) - 1986 − 1 January, 1986
Submitted by: Kerstin Upmeyer
Although Al Gore did not actually create the Internet, he was one of the legislators who contributed heavily to it. In 1986 Al Gore signed the Supercomputer Network Study Act. This bill proposed a plan to link the nation’s resources. It was passed into law to years later.
Al Gore continued to be a strong supporter of the internet for education and pushing technology expansion. He helped move the Internet beyond computer science in 1991 with the High Performance Computing and Communications Act, and continued to press for computer-related legislation throughout his political career.
