Spending Christmas in my dad's hometown was a treat for us. It's a 1.5 hour flight from Manila. The wonderful thing about Davao City, aside from our scores of relatives, is that there are both beaches and mountains to enjoy. I grew up as the city mouse with an appreciation for the life of the country mouse.
My cousins had a board game called "Questival" that year. It had red cards and white cards with Philippine trivia on them. Like: what is the scientific name of the Philippine eagle? Answer: Pithecopaga jefferyi . We liked to team up and play against each other, and by the time the vacation was over, we had learned a lot of trivia. It was useful in school, mostly in Science and in Social Studies classes.
One up for educational board games!
