Ring-a-ding-ding − 6 February, 2007
I have been in a relationship with my man for 10 years (will be next month). We have a wonderful son who is 7 years old and have a good life together. It hasn't been an easy 10 years but that just made our bond stronger. I love this man and I love our family. His folks long ago took me in as their daughter in law and this is where the kick comes. We are not married. We have reasons but most of them are financially related and they are all very good ones. I feel that I don't need a paper to justify our relationship but lately all my friends have been getting married and I started feeling that maybe it is the time for us. I was thinking that realistically we can't have a legal marriage for a few years so in my mind I started contemplating going to Mexico and just having a ceremony but not filing for the marriage certificate in the US till we are good and ready. I want to be able to call this man "My Husband".
Well Valentines day is around the corner and my boo's recently married cousin seems to be spreading the marriage vibe onto him as well (this is just what I am feeling). Yesterday I was asked this question by my significant other:
"Platinum, gold, or white gold?"
and my obvious answer was:
"As in a ring or in record sales?" /* he is a musician recreationally*/
he said:
"Never mind"
I said
"In either case it's Platinum"
He is going to his cousin's house tonight and I am just wondering if a piece of jewelry that is a symbol of so much will be decorating my finger in the near future.

congratulations! relationships are *not* easy, it's a lot of work. i admire you for your commitment and all the love in your family. i think its wonderful that you're having a special ceremony. btw, i would've *chose* platinum as well. ;-)
