kicking the habit − 1 September, 2004
after breaking up with my fiance and moving-out. i decided i needed a fresh start and wanted a new life with a clean slate. i also made the conscious decision of *not* owning or watching television. when i tell my friends some think it's cool, others feel sorry for me and offer me one of their televisions. in all honesty i don't miss it at all. i have so much more time to do other things like *read* more. i found most of what's on television is like a bag of potato chips, it tastes good while you're eating it but than are left feeling empty, unsatisfied and regret it later.
there's nothing like kicking the habit. ;-)

Now that's interesting. In my house, I spend most of my free time nowadays playing music and studying French . . . I've always got some sort of project going. People ask me, "How did you learn to play all those instruments?" Well, it's simple math. I think most Americans watch 3 or 4 hours of TV a night. I don't. The only thing I watch is one show, "Battlestar Galactica" (the new one), and there hasn't been a time in the last 15 years when I've ever watched more than one show in a week. All that other time goes to the things that make life worthwhile.
