e-scape portfolio (single screen) − 1 July, 2006
We developed a bespoke e-portfolio system for the e-scape project in partnership with with TAG Learning and Handheld Learning. The resulting system linked PDAs dynamically to a web portfolio. The teachers we worked with were all very excitied by the e-scape system and wanted access to use it in their schools. Unfortunately we need to do more development work to encorporate our findings from the pilot into the system, but in the meantime there are lots of web 2 resources that you could experiment with. Here is an example of what an e-scape project might look like as a dandelife timeline.
The task the pupils were set is explained in italics below, along with some of the questions we asked during the task. The images show an example of how pupils responed collecting photographs of their work using the PDA. The video at the very bottom shows how all the evidence (sketches, photos, text and audio) could be edited together to help assessors make judgements about the overall level of performance of each response.

Task description
Young children, teenagers, adults and senior citizens with certain medical conditions often need to carry one or more pills around with them during the day. They need to remember to take these at the correct time.
A manufacturing company have asked you to develop some ideas for possible pill dispensers. They are looking for attractive and imaginative designs that solve the problems of:
• containing and carrying the pills
• filling the container and dispensing the pills
• producing something that is easy to use and desirable.

My project is for
a girl aged 4 to early teens. For the age I am making the pill box for it would have to be interesting and colourful
after 1 hour
what is going well?
The good things about my design are the shape, how strong it is and how I have built things up.
What needs more development?
I need to make it neater and cut out the spaces where the pills will go
after 2 hours
what is going well?
The web idea has worked well putting 5 sticks in the middle when you press in the middle and both the sides lift up.
What needs more development?
My first model didn't work that well so I had to make it a bigger scale. I need to find bigger sticks and it will work better.
after 3 hours
what is going well?
The idea I got form an umberella, which I have got working. It's an obvious pill box that is interesting and easy to use.
What needs more development?
I still need to finish the model which is twice the size it is going to be and make it bend more easily.
