Queensryche Concert  − 30 September, 2006

I reserved a VIP suite for the Queensryche concert at The Depot. They performed Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II in their entirety. Todd, Tom and Sun went with me. It was a great event and a great venue. Even though I have seen them in concert 8 or 9 times over the years, this situation was by far the best for me, because we had great unobstructed views, and I could sit my aging butt down.
: )

Prior to the show, we (the whole fam damily) went out to a meet and greet at a Harley dealership in South SLC. Even though I am a long time QR.com fanclub members, I didn't win the lottery to go to the soundcheck prior to or the meet and greet following the show. It worked out, and Mike Stone even paused to have his photo taken with my wife and little girl while I was at the back of the line waiting to see he and Geoff.

While I understand QR is not everyone's cup of tea, somehow their music sounds the best to these ears this ear of mine. I simply love Geoff Tate's voice. I am really a strange bird, because if any music defined my personality, it would probably be in the Jimmy Buffett genre. Somehow, the QR groove sunk it's claws and has yet to release me.

My cousin Todd got me interested in QR back in 1988, when O:M was released. Once I heard it all the way through, I was hooked, and went back to their earlier releases: Queensryche EP, Warning, and Rage For Order. I have been a loyal fan ever since. Even though critics claim their best work ends after the Promised Land era, I have been greatly entertained by every piece of work they have turned out.

A MURDERER?

Lost my faith in humanity
and I don’t trust in society
I’m numb, cold, ready.

No one else dies today . . .

What did you do?
I don’t remember . . .
Murderer!
They say I’m a murderer!

God must be dead because I’m still free.
No religion holds me . . . am I the killer?

No one else dies today . . .

What did you do?
I’m the revenger,
Murderer!
No! I’m the revenger!
Murderer!
No I’m the . . . black hand of death!

Sixty-five hundred days . . .
I’m feeling good for the first time in years.
Your miserable life is in my hands.
What would you do?

Kill him!

Does this signal an ending or another dream just beginning? Are his actions worth forgiving?
No more pain! Revenge!

Haven’t you enough?
The dog is on his knees!

Does this signal an ending or another dream just beginning?
Is revenge worth any price?
Tell me what’s right?

He wants more life!

NO!
You want more life?
NO!
Is this my victory?
Murderer!
Am I?

Stay down on your knees
and explain it to me one more time.
What gives you the right?
You took away my life . . . !
and left me with nothing, nothing.

This is like what I dreamed . . .
it seems like a good day to die.

And so it ends. And now what?

I feel the same way about bands when I see them live. I can hear a studio track and I might like it first and then go see it live. But often I hear a live performance, go get the studio work and I want more of the live stuff. There's something inexplicably intoxication about finding a groove. Or as Bob Marley said, "One thing about music. When it hits you you feel OK." Finding that tune is sooooo important. :-)

when i lived in seattle i had a manager who went to the same high school in bellevue, wa and knew the band members.
