I lurked on DMusic for quite some time before I joined.  Unlike Jamendo, which will actually prompt you to sign up from time to time, DMusic is content to have you tune in anonymously.

However, I don't recommend doing that.

See, DMusic has a huge advantage in its people: it is a community.  When you sign up, you can post shouts to other members, post on the forum, and do some other cool things.

The shoutboxes had me totally confused at first.  Coming from a background of Usenet and IRC, I sort of expected conversations to take place on the same page.  Instead, DMusic protocol is to post a shout on someone's page, then they will post a shout on your page.  For the first entire month, I was mystified--I kept reading halves of conversations, and wondering if I'd accidentally stumbled into the William S. Burroughs fan club.  Then I finally figured out what was going on, and it made sense.

Does dMusic provide an RSS feed of your music? If so, we would sync it with your dandelife. We're about to launch some features that will allow you to do that automatically.

Well, DMusic just went through a complete site redesign last fall, and they are steadily improving things, but the interface isn't as streamlined as Jamendo. Part of that is no doubt because of their being one of the first online free music sites; there's a lot of legacy code to update, giving them a bit more software inertia to deal with. So, no, no RSS as of yet . . . but with so many sites doing it, I'd look for it in the next year.

OK. If you ever have any ideas on how we can make your online life a little more expressive - if there are any improvements we need to make here - then please let me know.
