twittering so simple, yet so powerful − 28 February, 2007

since last summer when i discovered *twitter* i've seen it grow in popularity. now i see people from around the world twittering what they are doing.

today i was playing around with *twitter* and realized that it's a great way to disseminate *real-time* financial market data. so for people who are actively trading the financial markets, a web app like twitter is a very powerful and neat little tool.

tonight i was keeping a watchful eye on what the overseas markets were doing in asia specifically japan. i twittered the movement of the nikkei, futures prices of gold, yen and nikkei. all in *real-time*. i thought this was amazing.

i was thinking it would be great to be able to subscribe to specific market alerts via twitter.

I'm a twitter addict. I found myself laughing last night though when I got a twitter from Ross that said: "is getting a massage". Somehow the thought of taking the time out from my massage to let everyone know is counter-productive. It would be like me twittering "is playing soccer" on any given sunday. Can't you imagine me on the field with my Treo texting away? What next? "is scoring a goal", "is getting tackled" and "is getting channeling zidane in both prowess and attitude"? :-) Still, instant info is compelling. I like to know what's going on in my friends' lives wherever they may be. When I get twitters, I'm instantly transformed into a time and place. That's how I discovered that SF is sharing its weather with San Diego today. I love it!

the thing is people twitter the most in/significant things. i saw that *massage* twitter too and laughed. i think its cool when i get *twitterquakes* in the bay area. so i know i'm not the only one that felt the earthquake. i saw your weather twitter. too funny. :-)

i just read it. i love the chart, it reminds me of when i was in my 20's and used to follow global markets when i worked at the cme. i was thinking about the us economy and i think one thing that really differentiates us from any other country is *technology*. also, the entrepreneurial spirit that is really the backbone of the us economy. :-)
