It's rough being the new kid in school. From the start those kids hated my guts. I never did anything to them, but they did anything and everything to me. I was shoved around, beat down, put down, threatened to get beat down, had stuff thrown at me....you name it. On two occasions I was reduced to tears on the playground (Word of advice...It is not okay to cry in public. Eventually I just started skipping recess.) There was even one time in gym when we all had to run a mile. Well, in the end it was just me and another kid left and everyone starts cheering for him to beat me. Some were literally standing and yelling not to let me pass. When he finished before me, they all clapped and cheered. At any given point in those four years, I probably had one friend (who would most likely abandon me later because someone told him not to hang out with me. No, I'm not making that up.) That's the way it was for four long years. Actually it never really stopped until sometime in high school but the worst of it was in elementary.
Of course not all of elementary school was horrible there were a few *ahem* brief *cough* moments of joy. I'll never forget the day in music class when I spent most the time looking up a Girl Scout's skirt. (Hey, I was a kid and she should've had her legs crossed anyway!) Playing kickball is another fond memory. I couldn't run for crap but I could kick the ball hard enough to make up for it (and once I nailed a guy right in the face. He was a jerk anyway. Shouldn't have been so close.) And.....(man, I'm gonna really give myself away by saying this)....the talent show that first year. Family Matters had blown up big and Urkel was huge, so.......my homeroom class did the Steve Urkel dance in the talent show. Remember that episode? Someone had a tape of it and with that we learned the dance and performed it. All the guys wore highwaters and suspenders and the girls wore these frilly dresses like Myrtle Urkel (his cousin). And because I know you're wondering: Yes, I have that performance on tape. Maybe it'll end up on YouTube someday......but not anytime soon (cause there are people who would probably hurt me if that footage gets out.)
