The Road to Nowhere − 3 March, 2007
Saturday, March 3, 2007 was the day of the eclipse. Of course, we didn't see it in Gainesville; the sky was overcast.
It was also the day my wife left for a two month detail in Washington, D.C.
Now, if you've read the other entries on this blog, you know I don't do well when my wife is away. In 2005, there was a period called "Dark Side Summer" -- she accepted an internship in Cambodia, and nearly died there. As for myself, I only got through that awful time by focusing on making music.
Well, here I am again, in this familiar empty house. I call these quiet, empty days "The Road to Nowhere."
This time it's better.
Last time, I couldn't talk to her except by phone -- and our phone bill eventually ran up into the thousands of dollars. The connection was always horrible: crackly and fading.
Now? She's only in D.C. She can travel back and forth; she's coming back for a visit next week. We talk via instant messaging and cell phone. Also, it helps that I know she's safe -- she's staying with her brother, who happens to live just outside D.C.
Don't get me wrong: I'm not happy. But at least I'm not in Hell.

BTW, "<a href="http://www.last.fm/music/Talking+Heads/_/Road+to+Nowhere%2A">The Road to Nowhere</a>" is one of my favorite songs from the talking heads.
