Grandpa back in the day − 25 March, 1919
Here is a great shot of my Grandpa I guess right when he got back from WWI. Him and his buddies were supposedly drinking some beers and decided to get the photo taken. I received this photo from my brother Rex who wanted some work done on it. I slightly kicked up the contrast so you could see a bit more detail but I like the fading going on. What is really cool about the actual photo is that it is done on a postcard so the original customer(Grandpa) would have been able to send the photo immediately. Quite different from how things are today.
Well enjoy Grandpas transformation into the digital world for all to see.
Cheers,
Doug O

Which one is your grandpa? Also, that's a familiar pose. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are hiding beers in their hands. I have been in and taken a few photos like that myself. I love those old silver bromide prints. I've begun collecting them. Whenever I go to thrift stores or antique stores I usually come home with a handful. My wife hates them but I love looking at them and wondering what stories may be embedded in them I haven't yet discovered.

Grandpa is the one on the left. I agree there is some beer smuggling going on :) Old photos make for great inspiration while songwriting. You can just imagine what they did back in the old days.

Those two guys on the right are concealing something for sure. They have their hands cupped in an otherwise awkward manner. I love that this is a drunken whim photo. That adds so much character to it. Thanks for sharing.

Now that I look at it, maybe there is a flask tucked up underneath their sleeves.
