Killing Outlook: Plaxo  − 1 January, 2007

Plaxo. No complaints there. I upgraded to Plaxo Premium which was a smart move. There's a loophole in their trial. You can use the full-featured premium service for free for 30 days. If you cancel before the trial is up, you can start a new 30-day trial again immediately. I was doing that for a time before I figured it was time to stop being a mooch. Why do I use Plaxo? Because it f-ing works. I don't have to worry about saving my contacts for one. It automatically syncs with all of the mail clients I have used. I don't access it via mobile yet because Verizon doesn't support it yet for the Treo, but I would love to soon. I also use Plaxo to stay up on my contacts' details. Whenever they get a new job or new address or whenever I get a birthday reminder I really do appreciate the fact that Plaxo is staying on top of those details for me. End of story.

N.B. I had a little hiccup with my Plaxo sync and had to contact their technical support as well. Here's the message thread.

Hello Kelly,

Thank you for contacting Plaxo VIP Support.

I verified our records and found that you are registered in Plaxo with following e-mail address:

.....@yahoo.com

I understand from your e-mail that your contacts in both Yahoo and Plaxo address book got deleted. Also, I gather the information that you deleted contacts from Yahoo and then synchronized with Plaxo.

I would like to inform you that Plaxo would definitely delete Plaxo address book when you delete Yahoo address book when both the address book are in sync.

However, I can undelete those contacts if you let me know the date the contact was deleted.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best regards,
Balu

Subject: Why did my contacts get deleted when I synced with Yahoo address book?

I just synced my contacts with Yahoo and now both my yahoo and plaxo contacts are pretty much all gone.

I deleted my yahoo contacts before syncing. Then, using the IE plaxo sync toolbar, synced. I got a confirmation message that 862 contact were update, whcih was what I saw in plaxo prior to synch. Then after sync I refreshed both Plaxo and Yahoo addresses only to discover that I only have 2 contacts in each. Ouch.

I have backups i can upload in case I need to resync. What shall I do? Is plaxo just thinking or did I really lose all of those contacts?

K
