David Letterman and Sesame Street − 1 June, 1982

Early in my life there wasn't much going on in my life besides TV and reading, and many of my first memories are centered around these things. My parents had put a small TV set in my bedroom, and I remember watching it almost nonstop. Apparently one of the things I was not given early on was a bedtime, as I have very clear memories of watching David Letterman in his early days on "Late Night". I even remember in first grade, I would draw the Rockefeller Center on paper, including David Letterman's giant picture window as I imagined it.

I also of course was a devotee of the kids shows, especially Sesame Street. I recall one "evening" when I was on a Sesame Street bender, and crayoned all the walls in my bedroom late at night. Perhaps I was listening to Ernie's "Rubber Ducky, You're the One" on my Fisher Price record player. I drew Xs and Os in different colors all over, and my mom flipped. From what I remember, my mom had to call in my Aunt Madeline from Columbus, Ohio, to come help clean up the mess.

In addition to these shows, I was also a big fan of "Knight Rider" and "The A-Team." But, then, who wasn't?

I'm also an old school fan of Letterman. As a kid, I liked him much more than Carson or (God help us) Leno.
