Regina Spektor concert − 29 April, 2007
Last night Kyle surprised me with tickets to this sold out show in
It is now my most favorite concert EVER!
But, it got me thinking. Someone said last night that they like her music because it is fun. I think that is the best way to judge talent...how it makes you feel.
I had flashbacks to college art history classes and how esoteric the whole thing was! I hardly think that someone 300 years ago put a gun in his painting as a falic symbol.
Can't we just like it because it makes us feel good? I think the most amazing part of analyzing any work of art is the emotions it evokes.
That's all I had on that :)

Live music is such a treat! I bet the concert was awesome! Even cooler that it was a surprise. :)

I can't remember the last time my hubby surprised me with something that cool. Of course, I also can't remember when we had extra money for something like that...haha (college will do that to ya'). Anyway, I'm sure the concert was great! I was the student in school that would answer "because it's exciting" to the question of "Why are you attracted to this piece of work?" I agree with you - why do people over-analyze so many things?

Hey Emily! Unfortunately I don't have any of my paintings photographed for viewing but you could always check out my other art if you wanted to (photography). It's up on the web for viewing. Email if you want to heygorgeATgmailDOTcom and I will send you the address! -Q

Note to add - Music actually bypasses the prefrontal cortex of the brain which houses thought and critical think and goes straight to the amagdala which is the emotional reaction center. So to judge music on how it makes you feels is right on.

I think liking something because it feels good is the first step to liking anything. Unless it feels bad in a good way. :-]

Plus, that's a good excuse if you had bad tastes :p

Then there are those works that draw you in emotionally but make you stick around for the little intellectual thrills deep inside.
