The House of Roses  − 1 October, 2000

What I will always remember about this house is the absolutely surreal number of rose bushes.  I've always heard that roses are hard to care for.  Evidently not!  At least not in Florida.  Most of the time we don't even bother watering them.

The ones in the front are famous for growing up and out, and are particularly adept at grabbing people's legs as they pass by on the sidewalk.

There are some particularly aggressive species in the back yard as well -- one used to be a hazard in mowing the lawn, so we moved it.  Well, every year, replacements sprout up in the exact area the rose bush used to live in.

Of course, other than grabbing you with thorny vines, the roses give the house quite a distinctive air when the windows are open in the fall, winter, and spring.

Special thanks to Kelly Abbott for getting me started posting photos. It took some activation energy, but now that the reaction is going . . . watch out. I have photos going back to Back in the Day.
