My Family: Christmas 2000  − 25 December, 2000

This is a family photo taken at Christmas, 2000.  We'd just bought our new house, so we invited our parents down.  Meet my family:

From left to right:

Amy T. Hamilton, Hannah's mother.

Silas Thurman, Amy's brother, Hannah's uncle.

Bunnie McCosar, my father.

Martha McCosar, my mother.

Hannah Hamilton, my wife.

Me.

Now, a lot of you new to this blog may have noticed the multicolored nature of this particular family photo.  My dad is Creek Indian; my wife is black.  Heck, for the record, my aunt was Korean.  Yesterday, the front page article on Wikipedia was this one:

Military Brat

See, my father was in the Marine Corps.  I found just about everything in this article true -- especially the part about anti-racism.  In first grade, my two best friends were Alexander Guilford (black) and Chuck Setzer (Filipino).  I thought nothing of it -- that was just the way the world worked.

And then . . . my dad went overseas.  We had to live with my grandparents for a year.  In some ways, it was a total nightmare.  Let's just say what I found in rural Georgia was not the promised land.
