Navasha & James' Wedding − 29 June, 2002
My niece Navasha Boxley married James Collins on June 29, 2002. The ceremony was one of the most beautiful I have seen.
My wife and I will go to weddings. We have traveled to many different cities just for that purpose -- St. Augustine, FL; Fayetteville, NC. In this case, we were in the Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore, MD.
One of the best features of the wedding was the band. Navasha and James have a band called Fertile Ground; you can see the band performing the wedding music in one of the pictures below.
At this point in my life, I had been playing music as an adult for two years. I had never played in a band. Watching Fertile Ground -- well, it made me want to be part of that world. They were truly amazing.
In just a few weeks I'd go off to Jazz Camp, but, unfortunately, that turned out to be a disaster. It took nearly a year for me to finally find my home and create my own space. But in some ways, the journey really began here, at the moments you see in the photos below.
