Cloudland Canyon − 1 January, 1994
I moved to Florida because I can't stand cold weather.
Keep in mind, I lived in Georgia before, and it was too cold for me there! My parents still live in LaFayette, Georgia, about 23 miles south of Chattanooga, TN.
So, Hannah and I came up for a visit after Christmas, 1993. This was only about 5 months in to the relationship, but like I said, I knew she was "the one."
Georgia is a beautiful state. In my high school years, I was involved in a lot of competitive academic events: science competitions, scholastic quiz show events. I got to travel the state and see some pretty amazing places -- places you've probably never heard of, but which are unique and beautiful.
On New Years Day, Hannah and I went to Cloudland Canyon State Park, not too far from my parents' home. There is a famous hiking path there, down a series of steep slopes and (at that time) rickety wooden stairs. At the bottom of the canyon, there are two main waterfalls.
Now, for those of you looking for evidence that I loved Hannah, consider this: I took her up on top of a mountain, in the dead of winter, when it was freezing cold, just to show her something I'd found that was precious -- the park. I had many fond memories of that place, and was willing to get freeze dried just to show her a bit more of my world.
The pictures below:
One is a panorama shot, copied directly out of our photo album, comprised of three pictures. The second -- brr -- is one of the waterfalls. Yes, that white stuff you see on the rocks is ice.
