2003—Myspace revolution  − 3 January, 2003

Myspace.com started in 2003 as a social networking website. By 2006, there were over 100 million users. Although many K-12 schools have banned the use of Myspace for their students, the use of blogs in Myspace could be considered a form of collaborative learning.     http://www.answers.com/topic/myspace   Submitted by: Gloria Schramm

My husband and I have a myspace account, and it has at times wreaked havoc on our lives. The proliferation of these sites: facebook, bebo, yahoo 360....has catapulted us into a completely different avenue of social interaction, and I fear the type of relationships my children will harbor because they rely more on sites like these than face to face relationships. I do have a blog on myspace that I regularly update and even have a fan base, but I make sure the only people that can read it are those that are personally invited, it’s just scary to think of who might be nosing through your personal business. Myspace is definitely an era of its own in technology and collaborative learning, I'm positive millions have "learned" from myspace. I would also like to add, as a former military wife, the Army has blocked all military personnel from accessing myspace from government computers, including those that are deployed, mainly because people were posting pictures of graphic scenes they saw down range. My question is, is this protecting the public or CENSORSHIP?

I heard about the Military Block on Myspace and was saddened. I used Myspace to communicate with a friend who was deployed and while he is back in the US, it saddens me because I know others who used it to communicate with their love ones who are based in other locations besides Iraq. I tend to believe it is a form of Censorship. Recently my Brother took a 7-day cruise to a few Islands in the Caribbean and Mexico. When he returned home, he was excited to tell of the version of CNN broadcasted outside of the US and how much more information those viewers are able to see. I think we are blinded by the Idea of freedom of speech here in US, I mean- who really has the ability to be free in their speech and who does not. I think it should be changed to freedom to inform and be informed! Words from a cynical T. Barnes
