Putting the O in San Diego − 22 June, 2007
David came down from LA this week to do a bit of schmoozing. We went to the Orioles-Padres game on Wednesday night (as a guest of Paul DePodesta). The seats were two rows back from the home dugout. Had a beer and a hot dog and shared some garlic fries.
The O's killed the Padre's.
After the game we went back to the W to talk the good talk. I won't tell David's story here, but he had a fun night after I went home. I told him his luck would improve if I wasn't there. I'm the world's worst wing-man. Being married - this is a badge of honor. But having the world's coolest wife means that if I wanted to, I could. But I've never been a good sidekick anywhere but in the office. Good at sales; lousy at small-talk.
On Thursday I had a morning meeting and then we went to the day game. Met Brian and Mason there randomly. Brian's always good to sit with and chat. Mason was being shy but amazingly for a 4-year-old at one point told us "if you go looking for me, I'll be down in the sand box." Good kid.
The O's won again. Tejada didn't play, thus ending his Ripken-esque streak of consecutive starts. He got hit by a pitch the previous night. A nasty thump that, being so close to the action, sounded a lot worse than he initially let on.
