Post Office Pileup − 1 April, 1970
The 1970 census forms were coming in and dad was in the thick of it (standing behind mail basket in background of photo). At this time he worked as a mail clerk at the Main Station branch downtown. In his 30+ years with the Postal Service, he rose up the ranks from clerk to station manager, with a stint as acting postmaster of Winston-Salem in the 1980s. He retired in 1987.
