Oliver Robillo of ITS-Davao, Chito Ortiz of CyberPromdi, and I got together during the first Mindanao Information and Communications Technology Congress. The concept for WeAreIT.org and WeRIT discussion group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/werit) was born as Chito Ortiz suggested it to counter the consolidation moves by the big IT organizations. Its slogan was also used for One Internet Day 2001, Leveling the Playing Field for SMEs, was coined by Oliver Robillo. Chito invited the Internet Cafe Association of Cebu to join the consortium as I invited Computer Society of Filipinos in Riyadh Saudi Arabia as well.
Planning for One Internet Day 2001 started as PICS, CyberPromdi, ITS-Davao, ComSoFil and Ken Ilio joined together to put up the OneInternetDay.com website and event.
