W3- Compare and Contrast Distance Education and Technology Progress
Between 1991 and 1995, the number of Internet hosts increased from 600,000 to 4 million. This phenomenon shows the growth of Internet usage. Besides, in1994, shopping malls arrived on the Internet. Pizza Hut offered pizza ordering on its Web page. The first cyberbank opened. It seems that Internet gradually became one of the tools of marketing merchandise in business. These changes resulted form the progress of technology. During the same time frame, distance education also makes huge progress. In 1992, the Electronic University Network assisted universities develop online virtual campuses on America Online. There are also Ph.D. program. In addition, The George Washington University began its distance M.A. in Educational Technology Leadership by the use of ME/U cable television and a computer bulletin board system. In 1993, asynchronous learning network were offered. The undergraduate center for distance learning was opened by the Union Institute. These historical events in 1992 and 1993 reveal the gradual development of distance education
In this era, it seems that the advancement of technology promotes the development of distance education. According to the history, the growth of Internet usage make the Internet be the medium of distance learning and online business. And the growth of distance education also drives more and more people to use Internet. Thus, I think both technology and distance education make progress between 1991 and 1995. They are also mutually dependent in this era.
