And so it begins . . .  − 8 October, 2007

Today I sent out some advance copies of my new CD, La vie sous la mer.  I plan on starting the official release process next week, on both Jamendo and DMusic.  Some people, however, got a head start on everyone else.

Hannah, my wife---but of course.  I didn't go through all that sleep apnea treatment so I could just end up sleeping on the couch!

My parents---You might think this is an obvious choice.  I mean, I dedicated the album to them.  But I believe they listened to my previous two albums a grand total of two times.  Well, what can I say?  They got handed a tough job when I came along.  They deserve a medal.  All I have is this album, though.

Sherrie Schuler---One of my fellow sixth grade teachers.  Last November, when my first album, evolution, came out, I made copies for a lot of the faculty and handed them out.  I never heard back from most of them.  Ms. Schuler, on the other hand, came and talked to me about it at great length.  She has always been very supportive, and over the years, I've come to respect her insight a great deal.

Henri Roger---Henri is to jazz what chili peppers are to vegetables: proof that surprise and good taste can be in the same package.  Henri was one of the first musicians I really got to know on DMusic (you can listen to his songs here).  His work has inspired me, and he himself has encouraged me.  (He even lets me practice my French with him!)

I sent out some others, as well, to some of the people who took the time to wonder what happened to me when I disappeared from the internet for so long.  I don't know how 'private' they are about their screen names vs. their real names, so I'm erring on the side of caution, here.  Plus it's kind of weird to talk about people whose public names are non-word ASCII strings.

So, in about a week, it's the big day.  I do have an errand to run, first.  But with luck I'll make it back from Z'ha'dum just fine.*

[* Just kidding.  I hate airports.  I keep getting a Stevie Ray Vaughn feeling about my upcoming flight.  Well, if I end up dead, and you're reading this, Henri, you have my permission to post the album on my behalf, as a sort of audio cenotaph.  Yes, I care about the music that much, to worry what would happen to it if I ended up as fertilizer somewhere.]

Thank you! It's a strange thing to have struggled so long, and to be this close to the conclusion. I guess that's why I'm starting to worry.
