The Silent Sea − 25 October, 2007
I was awakened the other night by a rather disturbing dream. Let's see if I can remember it.
I'm on a large ship in the middle of a vast, glittering ocean. I stand to one side, watching the waves beneath me lick the rocking wooden structure. The sun burns brightly in the cloudless sky, and a salty breeze blows across my face. All around me, people are scampering and tripping over themselves. I want to tell them to calm down, to enjoy the weather for a minute. But I can't. I open my mouth to speak, but a strained sigh was all I can produce. I begin to panic, and I realize that I'm rooted in place, unable to lift my feet. All at once, a cloud as black as death sweeps in from nowhere, and suddenly it's so very cold. Those around me clamor towards the life boats, and before I know it I'm alone there on the deck, raindrops as hard as rocks and as cold as ice pelting me from all directions. I'm terrified. I look over the edge of the ship again to look for the others, but gradually, I realize I no longer have to lean over the polished wood to see the water. The ship is sinking, and the life boats are nearly level with me. I try to scream for help, but again, no sound comes. Despite this, everyone turns to me with identical looks of disinterest. They are people I love, that I thought loved me. And they're leaving me to drown. The cold sea water crawls up my body as I watch the life boats disappear into the darkness...

Does part of you really feel that those who 'love' you don't seem to care enough about you or why do you think you had this dream?

I think you're right. Usually my subconscious is more subtle than that :p
