Breaking the Sound Barrier  − 10 October, 2006

I took Ben to his first Musical Threes class today. He loved it so much - Today's class theme was falling leaves. Each of the six adults and accompanying three year olds were sitting in a circle singing songs about autumn and then dancing around miming raking a pile of leaves to jump in. Here I had been unsure whether or not Ben would take to the class at all, or if he would be too shy to sing or clap or dance. But there was no hint of self-consciousness in him as he brazenly hopped about, crunching imaginary leaves under his feet. One of the dances required using our listening ears to hear when the wind picked up in the music to shake the leaves off the trees. Benjamin was sitting on my lap on the floor, and I felt a light rumbling against my leg. It was at that moment, while we were all straining with listening ears to hear the wind in the music, that Ben felt it necessary to share the news of his own wind, announcing in a booming voice, "Mom, I just farted."

Yes, folks, that's my sweet little gentleman.
