Harrison Bergeron − August, 2002
I first read this story as a freshman, and I found it ridiculous. The story made no sense, and seemed to reach out for all these absurdities. The plot seemed thin and woefully unbelievable. A few years later I realized that it was intended to be a satire, a reflection on humanity's futile struggle for equality.
I think it's strange that I knew enough about literature to criticize what I thought was a bad work, yet failed to pick out Vonnegut's whole point in the matter.
