A raisin, a river, and a random thought − 17 March, 2002
It was spring break of my Junior year at MSU. For a few days of spring break I traveled to Chicago with my parents, and my grandmother "grandma raisin"...why Raisin you ask? Well, she is 84 years old and is wrinkly like a raisin. It really isn't mean to call her that. She looks like a raisin. I call them like I see them...sounds like fun huh? I love my family it really was a great time.
Anyway, we take an architectural river tour. So here we are traveling between incredibly significant buildings built by very influential, and exceptional architects at the time. So you get the picture. Here we are in awe of all the greats when the tour guide asks what we think might be going up adjacent to the (I forget so I will lie and pick a building for effect) Wrigley building. Pregnant pause and then my 84 year old Raisin sits up straight, looks around and proclaims "a casino?!".
It was just hysterical. We try to bring up this story as often as possible. I promise you this is not elder abuse. She is too funny to leave alone!
So now you are in on a favorite family story. Yes, Raisin in Chicago on the river right next to an amazing building they are putting in a casino! A big shiny, obtrusive casino!

I forgot to mention that the building that was going to be going up was Trump Towers. :)
