The Great Spears Debacle  − 6 February, 2008

So my title sounds like a comedy – and in many ways it is a comedy, but a really sad one. How much does one family have to go through – and in the public eye? What a train wreck. A total mess. The parents must be so proud. Well, in between the teen parenting classes and court battles to take over an estate worth millions…
In the news yesterday, I read about Brit and Jamie Lynn’s dad, James Spears, fighting in court to continue his run as temporary conservator of Brit’s $40 Million estate while she is Baker acted for another couple of weeks.
Sad, too, as apparently the court-appointed attorney says she doesn’t understand what is going on in court. It sounds like her child custody hearings are continuing without her presence as well. Poor girl. Obviously, she is quite ill.
Jamie Lynn is also having some issues – apparently she has decided to skip out of Kentwood, Louisiana and out from under her mother’s influence. She’s supposedly headed to Los Angeles to live with her dad – mom Lynne is not really keen on the baby-daddy hanging around, so Jamie Lynn is moving to L.A. so she can be with her beloved. I guess in the biblical sense…
So, this story has more twists and turns than an Olympic slalom. It’s like our own real-life soap opera. Very entertaining.
It’s just sad that this is someone’s real life, splashed all over the tabloids for all of us to gawk at like a bad accident.
How blessed am I to not have to suffer through these same events in my family. Knock on wood.
So, we shall see what transpires in the continuing saga of life in the fast lane. All I can say is – how lucky am I?
Oh, and now out comes the restraining order against “manager” Sam Lufti – apparently sort of a Rasputin-like figure hovering over Brittany – reputedly drugging and controlling her. I certainly don’t doubt that. Her finances are attractive and she is certainly the sort who seems to need someone in her life guiding her. Now that K-Fed is out of the picture, this guy has the opportunity to swoop in and nurture her dependency on him (and likely drugs, as well) so that he can benefit. Very suspect.
Poor girl.
And her family must just be beside themselves. For all their issues and bad choices, I am sure her mother still loves her and it must tear them up to see this all happening to her – especially given her fragile emotional state. And to be so powerless to do anything.
Even at my age, if something terrible happened, my parents would be right there to help.
Well, for all my commentary on their dysfunctional relationships, I do pray for the Spears family. I do hope Brittany and Jamie-Lynn get their lives in order, get healthy, body and mind, and on the road to happiness and self-fulfillment. Their path seems to be more challenging than mine in this lifetime, and I wish them well on their journey.
Again, how lucky am I?
