Escape :-) − 7 February, 2008
There's something almost romantic about the exodus from campus; the steady thrum of the engine, the ubiquitous company of the night. This time I brought a guest along- a fever riding high and hot through my bloodstream on the way back.
Half of campus is sick right now, present company included. For some reason, the bug has struck me worse than many of the others-- it's a biological freight train, and I'm being ground down under its wheels.
By the time I pull into the driveway, it's after midnight. The house is dark, my parents already bedded down.
Home always has a definitively "squishy" quality to it. Everything seems softer within these walls- even the air. My feet sink into the carpet, and my bed swallows me. I curl up under the covers, and the shivering soon subsides. Sleep comes for me, and I yield myself over to her arms, feeling safer than I have in weeks.
