The Italian Contingent Hits American Soil − 14 May, 1900
According to ellisisland.org, my dad's Italian ancestors arrived on the ship La Gascogne, by way of France. At the time, their town and province must have been in Austria, because my ancestors are listed on the ship's manifest as Austrian. But they considered themselves to be Italian. The husband had already come over; this contingent was his wife and children.
