Ubuntu − 27 September, 2005
Well, I tried my hand at Linux again, this time going with Ubuntu, since it seemed like a respectable distro with a decent installer. After a minor hassle getting my screen resolution fixed, it seems to be mostly in good shape. Of course, there must always be something to go wrong, and this time it's USB. It seems I have USB support, but no support for my Visor. Evolution looks nice though, and I'm using Drivel at the moment to update my journal.
In general, I actually like it. I think fiddling with FreeBSD has taught me a lot about how these systems work (at least generally), and it's getting easier to get around. I think I'll try Gentoo one of these days, probably replacing this Ubuntu installation. Unfortunately, I need to set aside a few days to sit and compile everything in order to do that. Maybe once the new job starts I'll have some time to pull it off, but maybe not.
More on this story as it develops.
