To Speak  − 26 April, 2008

Saturday

Was up since 6AM.
Rushed out of house and reached Douby Ghaut by 12PM.
Didn't ate till close to 3PM and decided to have my lunch at MacDonald's.
Only to have it diarrhea-ed out as soon as i step outta Mac. The food must have been really poisonous to have such quick effect. In the end, feels as if i haven't eaten anything at all.

Went to IKEA, Queenstown, to shop for some ideas before heading to United World College, Dover, for the charity screening of To Speak at 6.30PM.

TO Speak Trailer
Strait's Time article on To Speak
This is a true story based on a young Cambodian girl, who in the pursuit of her dreams of creating a better life for her and her family, have to face the grind of daily survival and also grapple with the terrible legacy of the Khmer Rouge and the Killing Fields.
The film's score was composed by Reuben Kee. It's been 5 months since his passing but his music still lives on throughout the world. I enjoyed the whole film very much. Although mentally, i was feeling really tired, and sometimes i would just close my eyes to just listen to his music when it comes on. It wasn't until the quiet and peaceful solo-piano number at the rolling credits that break the well, as hard as i tried to hold it in.

Left early after the screening to have an early rest. Walked out 300m from the ulu small road to the main road only to find the main road just ulu. haha.... waited quite a while for a cab...

In the end, i got a free cab ride! lol! The cab uncle said he has to fetch a client at 10.30PM so he can't drive me home. He drove me to Raffle's Place FOC and advise me to take the train instead. haha... Thanks for helping me save money ( those who have watched the film would know what i'm talking about :P ). And i really need to save money in preparation for something i shall only reveal coming end of this year. And i would be able to check another dream off my Life List :P You can guess for now, no prize for correct guessing.

Walking in Raffles Place feels like a memory lane... this was were Reuben and I used to work. A small design studio at Nankin Row... a row of shop houses amongst the big and tall high-rise office buildings....

Was home at ard 11.30Pm and finally had a proper meal of scallop and meat porridge which Mom whipped up in just 20mins. :)

You can listen to more of Reuben Kee's music here and here. One of my all-time fave.... "Once Upon a Lifestream", "Setting Sails on Dreams", "Heartbeat of a People"- Theme of To Speak.
