A Very Good Day! − 14 May, 2008

Wow! Today was the day of our big demo. The importance of this demo was great, in that we had to convince a very highly-placed individual of its value, not just at our University, but on a national scale. It was fantastic! This individual went from being extremely skeptical about the entire thing several months ago, when we began, to urging us to "get a stake in the ground" now -- to get our idea in to publication and become known in the national arena of our field as being the ones to do it.

The ideas in that room shot back and forth, and as people talked, I began to realize that I was involved in something very special. I have always hoped that the work I do would somehow matter in the end. I have worked on much smaller projects that mattered in much smaller arenas. but this is the biggest and most important project I have ever worked on! I am very much in the background - I am a background kind of person. But it still feels great!

So for today, at least, I put all my gripes and complaints about this job in a drawer, and tell them to hush up. It is becasue of this job that I am part of this project.

Sorry for being so general, but this isn't the kind of stuff you write about in detail on a personal blog! Suffice it to say that the field is medical and bioinformatics. It amounts to being part of the effort to make health research happen better, faster, and more efficiently.
