Job or Screw Job? − 29 February, 2000
Well I'll be dipped in shit. It looks as though the job with the other government contractor in Alice Springs has panned out. They flew me to Dallas two weeks ago for an interview. I really wouldn't call it an interview, though. It was a bit weird; they told me all about the company and Alice Springs, but they never asked me any questions about my skills or work history. I could be an inept dog washer and I don't think they would care. These guys didn't exactly strike me as competent. And I'm trying to get a job with them. Great.
At the interview, they said they wanted to start out by hiring my into a "temporary, part-time" position, and after a period of time (ostensibly to evaluate my work and figure out the best position to put me in) they would hire me on full-time. It all sounded a bit suspicious to me, and after I told my wife she is firmly believes they are trying fuck me over.
I have no doubt they're trying to screw me. The problem is, they're the only option open to me right now and they know it. They have me by the balls.
I should be receiving an offer in the mail sometime in the next few days. I hope they at least wash their hands when they start squeezing my nuts.
