The Big Move  − 20 May, 2008

So the Friday before last my company moved. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks moving, unpacking, settling in and preparing for an expanding workforce. I, of course, have been blessed with a bajillion different things to do – from turning off the water to turning on the electric to stocking, unpacking… you name it.

Our new place is quite different that where we had been. Up until a little over a week ago our office had been located in a historic home in Delray Beach. It has a certain flavor – it had been a home, so it had a more relaxed atmosphere to it, and was very comfortable. I had my own office with a window and my own restroom. It was great for my dog, too – whoever I brought with me to work had pretty much run of the area, plus when I took my breaks to walk the dog, it was a nice, residential walk.

Our new office is in a “real” office building – a “professional plaza” – with 4 floors, elevators, a “lobby” – the whole bit. So far the dogs I have brought have actually liked the change (much to my surprise). My new “office” is the front desk area and there is enough room for a large crate and a dog bed, and the dogs like their new cubby-hole area.

The commute is just a little bit further for me – 5 to 10 minutes, depending on traffic – so it isn’t that bad, though I do miss my old desk, window-view and private restroom…

The airconditioning on this side of the office is not great, either, so I have been warm and it’s made me a little sleepy, even. Or maybe that’s lack of caffeine.

It seems that the new place houses all sorts of professionals from Title Companies to Attorneys, maybe even some doctors.

There’s nice green swale area off to one side, too, where the dogs can relive themselves and no one cares if I pick it up or not (I do anyway as I am always the one who will step in it). Plenty of room for Kiri to run laps.

Our new employees will be phone sales people. There’s already a bunch of workstation cubicles set up, now we need to get the computers and power set up over there.

I think about the expansion of the company and it is really so exciting. I’ve been on board from almost the beginning, so it is special to see this endeavor taking off. And I am part of it.

So exciting to be on the verge of something big. Look forward to updating you all on it.

My company is moving this week! I pack up all my files tomorrow. I think I know how you feel...I am losing my view :(
