Hoist one for my man  − 11 June, 2008

What would I do without my husband? He takes the “in sickness” part of “in sickness and in health” pretty seriously. Lately, if he catches me doing dishes, he’s likely to shoo me away. I’ve noticed that the cat litter box gets emptied again and again, despite the fact that we are supposed to alternate. He planted my garden, something that would’ve been out of the question for me in my current condition (i.e. Carpal tunnel syndrome).

All of this is on top of two nights per week of softball double- or triple-headers, three hours of calculus class two nights per week, and hours of calculus homework.

I have been thanking him verbally, but I wanted to do something a little bit more. I got him a gift card to the new REI. He was pleased. But he would’ve done it all anyhow. I’ve been giving him extra hugs and kisses. But there’s something else.

To all of you who enjoy my writing, to those of you who think that it might be fun to grab a beer with me, hoist the beverage of your choice to my husband. Hoist a beverage for every lunch he has made for me in the past two weeks. Take a sip for each of the six items in my lunch. Savor your beverage and think about how without his help, your Dandelife friend would be very sad girl indeed.

Those of you who chose wine, beer, or the hard stuff ought to be pretty toasted by now.
